A Tale of Two Studies—or,
What Fools These Mortals Be!

Study # 1—Federal Regulation and Aggregate Economic Growth
Two economists (John Dawson of Appalachian State University and John Seater of North Carolina State) recently released a new study in the Journal of Economic Growth. According to that study, the growth of federal regulations since A.D. 1949 has cut U.S. economic growth by an average of 2 percentage points per year. These annual losses are cumulative.
According to the study’s authors,
“Macroeconomists typically divide government economic activity into four broad classes: spending, taxation, deficits, and monetary policy. There is, however, a fifth class of activity that may well have important effects on economic activity but that nevertheless has received little attention in the macroeconomic literature: regulation.
“Regulation’s overall effect on output’s growth rate is negative and substantial. Federal regulations added over the past fifty years have reduced real output growth by about two percentage points on average over the period 1949-2005. That reduction in the growth rate has led to an accumulated reduction in GDP of about $38.8 trillion as of the end of 2011. That is, GDP at the end of 2011 would have been $53.9 trillion instead of $15.1 trillion if regulation had remained at its 1949 level.”
As a result, the average American household receives about $277,000 less annually than it would have gotten in the absence of six decades of accumulated regulations. Without those regulations, today’s median household income would be $330,000 instead of the current $53,000.
Hard to believe isn’t it?
If it weren’t for government’s unbridled impulse to regulate anything and meddle in everything, the average American family might be earning $330,000 a year.
Think about that. With less government regulation (more freedom), your family might be earning over a quarter million dollars more than it currently earns.
One-quarter million dollars.
Per year.
How many problems do you have that you couldn’t solve all by yourself if you had an extra $250,000 income each year?
How much help would you need from government? How much assistance to you suppose would be required by people who are currently on welfare? How many subsidies would go to support the rich? Would any bank be “too big to fail” if every American family’s income rose by $250,000 per year?
I guarantee that if the average American family was earning another $250,000 per year, enough of that would “trickle down” to the unemployed to make life a lot better than it is living on welfare. And who would “fake” being unemployed in order to get $30,000 a year from gov-co if, by being employed, they stood to earn a quarter-million dollars each year?
Without the endless stream of government regulations, we’d all be so prosperous that almost none of us would be dependent on government. If very few of us were so impoverished as to be dependent on government, what power would government hold over the American people?
• Of course, we can doubt the accuracy of the numbers presented in this study. Is it truly possible that, with the same level of freedom as was enjoyed in A.D. 1949, you and I might be earning another $250,000 each year?
I can’t say.
I can say that I downloaded a copy of the study and it appears credible. I can say that this study is unlike previous studies in that it applies to over 60 years while the longest previous study applied to 20 years. By expanding the time frame, this study reportedly generated a more reliable result.
But even if the study’s results were miscalculated, I’ll bet that their numbers are at least half right. In other words, in the event that the study’s $330,000 median home income is mistaken, the real number would still be at least $165,000.
Again, how many problems would you have today—mortgage, car payments, health care, college for the kids, etc.—if your income were increased by, say, $100,000 per year?
Unless the authors have made a spectacular, career-ending mathematical mistake, we now have evidence that our national prosperity is being destroyed by our own government.
Except for “Big Brother,” you and I, our parents and our kids, might all be rich.
When Reason.com asked the authors about the cause of overregulation, one author replied: ". . . we didn’t set out to prove or disprove any particular theory." The other added that their research does not address the question of "why society allows excessive regulation . . . . It's an important [issue], but it’s one for the public choice people to study, not for macroeconomists like me and my co-author."
Study #2 offers a surprising and unsettling explanation for why we allow—and even encourage—excessive governmental regulation.
Study #2--Regulation and Distrust
Reason.comrecentlypublished“No One Trusts the Government—Which is Bad News for Libertarians”. That article explored an extraordinary paradox: “When public contempt for the feds increases, so does the size and scope of government.”
I.e., the more we distrust and despise the government, the bigger it gets.
After listing some examples of why people generally distrust the government—and why that distrust is rational—the article continues:
“Pew Research concludes that “trust in federal government remains mired near a historic low and frustration with government remains high.” Just 26 percent of Americans trust the government most or all of the time, while 73 percent usually distrust it. . . . In a comprehensive survey of public attitudes done last September, Gallup found that just 19 percent of Americans think they “can trust the government in Washington to do what is right” “just about always” or “most of the time.” [81% generally distrust government.] The latest CNN/ORC poll, shows large majorities convinced that Obama is failing on the economy, the deficit, foreign policy, civil liberties, and just about everything else.”
We could therefore suppose that, since the vast majority of Americans distrust their government, we should see powerful, populist movements to reduce the size and power of government.
But Reason.com writes,
“What if distrust in government perversely drives demand for more government? That’s the implication of recent research, and it helps explain why the state keeps growing even as our faith in it shrinks.”
What a dopey conclusion! Surely, people aren’t so dumb (or perverse) that, in the midst of massive government corruption or mismanagement, people demand even more government.
But according to an A.D. 2010 paper “Regulation and Distrust” and published in The Quarterly Journal of Economics) that’s just what happens. The more incompetent, corrupt or even treasonous a government becomes, the more government the people demand.
Say it isn’t so!
It can’t be!
Yes, I know that people are often stupid and routinely do dumb things, but the idea that we’re somehow drawn by corrupt government to support even more government is so freakin’ stupid and suicidal that it’s hard to believe or even imagine.
Most people just can’t be that dumb, right?
In fact, according to the study’s authors’ abstract of their study, people can be that dumb:
“We document that, in a cross section of countries, government regulation is strongly negatively correlated with measures of trust. In a simple model explaining this correlation, distrust [for government] creates public demand for regulation [and] regulation in turn discourages formation of trust . . . . A key implication of the model is that individuals in low-trust countries want more government intervention even though they know the government is corrupt.”
God help us all.
Therefore, “Drawing on World Values Survey data from the past several decades for over 50 countries, the authors help explain what they call ‘one of the central puzzles in research on political beliefs: Why do people in countries with bad governments want more government intervention?’”
The authors observe that in countries where the majority of people routinely trust their government, the general level of governmental regulation is relatively low. However, in countries where distrust of government predominates, citizens “support more government regulation, fully recognizing that such regulation leads to corruption.”
Worse, increased regulation inspires more distrust, which in turn engenders more regulation.
OMG! Corrupt government isn’t simply an event or phenomenon—it’s an addiction almost identical to crack cocaine. The more you get, the more you want!
This addiction to corrupt government seems like less of an economic phenomenon than a biblical curse. Perhaps, as we become an increasingly immoral people who are unable or unwilling to govern ourselves, we become more susceptible to being governed by others—even though we know they are corrupt.
As distrust of government rose under G.W. Bush, government grew massively. Under Barack Obama, distrust of government has grown even faster—as has the size and power of government. Despite knowing that our government is destroying our nation (see Study #1, supra), most Americans support more government and thus, more national destruction.
The more we distrust government, the more it grows. The more it grows, the more we distrust it. Corrupt government feeds on our distrust. Fascism becomes increasingly attractive. We cheer the police state and hold parades to celebrate the openings of new concentration camps.
We begin to behave like lemmings.
• I’ve tried to warn people against government for most of 30 years. I’ve been pleased to see more and more people come to accept my warnings. But I’ve also been frustrated by the fact that, despite growing awareness of governmental corruption and treason, government grows faster and more importantly, the people seem helpless to stop or slow that growth. Until now, the contradiction between growing public awareness of government corruption and growing public support for more government seemed incomprehensible.
But, now, I begin to understand. Some perverse instinct, impulse or even curse compels nations that rationally distrust their government to nevertheless irrationally support even more government growth.
So, here in my “Tale of Two Studies” we see evidence of “What Fools These Mortals Be”. In Study #1, we have evidence to prove that the government is our enemy rather than our benefactor; that increased government regulation is driving us into poverty. And yet, in Study #2, we see evidence that most of us are somehow inclined, compelled, or even cursed to support that government which we know to be the most corrupt, oppressive or even treasonous—and thus, support our arch-enemy and our own national self-destruction.
The authors of Study #2 hope that the people will one day resist over-regulation—but they offer no reason to suppose that will happen. The logic of people’s perverse impulse to support and expand corrupt government implies that once the spiral of self-destruction begins, government will grow increasingly oppressive until (like the former Soviet Union) the nation finally disintegrates into anarchy and violence.
I no way out of this spiral other than a revival of American faith and morality—and I don’t imagine such revival taking place until after a collapse.
I don’t know if the implications of this article scare you, reader—but I guarantee they scare me. For the first time, I begin to believe that there may be no hope of avoiding a national catastrophe. For the first time, I see collapse as not merely possible, but inevitable.
I’ve concluded a number of my previous articles with advice that you “Buckle up”.
This time, I really mean it.

Detroit Files for Bankruptcy

Detroit has been mismanaged and allowed its industrial based to wither over the past 2 or 3 decades. As a result, we could see Detroit’s bankruptcy coming for many years. Although insolvency was resisted for several years, the inevitable arrived on Thursday when the City of Detroit filed for bankruptcy.
The amount of money Detroit actually owes is unclear but is believed to be between $18 and $20 billion.
The population of Detroit is now about 700,000.
If we divide the Detroit’s debt by Detroit’s population the result is a “fair share” of roughly $25,000 in city debt for every citizen of Detroit.
• The United States has been mismanaged and allowed its industrial based to wither over the past 2 or 3 decades. As a result, we’ve been able to see a US bankruptcy coming for many years. That national bankruptcy has been successfully resisted for several years, so the inevitable has not yet arrived.
Nevertheless, it’s interesting to compare the US national debt to Detroit’s city debt.
According to the Obama administration, the US national debt is at least $17 trillion. The population of the US is 310 million. If we divide the national debt by the population, you’ll see that every American’s “fair share” of the national debt is about $55,000—about double the “fair share” of Detroit’s debt owed by each citizen of Detroit.
If Detroit’s debt of $25,000 per citizen was enough to put Detroit into bankruptcy, would the national debt of $55,000/person be enough to put the US into bankruptcy?
I recognize that the economic realities of the US are much stronger than those of Detroit. Therefore, a national debt that was proportionally double the Detroit debt might not be enough to precipitate a national bankruptcy.
However, there is great doubt as to whether the true size of the national debt is only $17 trillion.
• For example, John Williams (shadowstats.com) calculates the real national debt is not $17 trillion but is actually about $85 trillion. If we divide Williams’ calculation by the 310 million population, each American’s “fair share” of the national debt is $275,000—about eleven times greater than the “fair share” of each citizen of Detroit.
Admittedly, a national debt that’s proportionally twice as great as Detroit’s might not be enough to precipitate a national bankruptcy. But, could a national debt that was proportionally eleven times greater than Detroit’s cause national bankruptcy? I think the answer is Yes.
• The Congressional Budget Office has calculated that, including unfunded liabilities, the national debt is about $202 trillion. Divide that number by our 310 million population, and the resulting “fair share” of the national debt is $650,000 for every American man, woman and child. That’s about twenty-six times the size of each Detroit citizen’s “fair share” of Detroit’s debt.
Given that comparison, I doubt that a national bankruptcy can be avoided.
Yes, the economic condition of the US is fundamentally stronger than that of Detroit. But is it twenty-six times stronger?
More, if the US is so strong that comparing its debt to Detroit’s debt is unreasonable, why doesn’t the national government simply give Detroit a “bail out”? In just the last five years, under the guise of Quantitative Easing (QE) 1, 2 and 3, the US has given hundreds of billions of dollars to banks and financial institutions that were deemed “too big to fail”.
Isn’t Detroit also “too big to fail”?
Apparently not. QE is for bankers, not for cities—and certainly not for people.
Even now, our government is injecting $85 billion per month into the economy. That’s $20 billion per week.
Detroit’s total debt is $20 billion. Why not kick just one week’s QE to Detroit and let that city escape bankruptcy?
Is Detroit already so ruined—or so black—that the national government sees no point to saving it? Has the national government decided to ship American industries and jobs overseas and destroy those that remain?
Or is the national government already so nearly bankrupt that it can’t afford to take on another $20 billion in debt?
Inquiring minds . . . .
In any case, the point remains that if Detroit’s per capita debt of $25,000 is enough to put it into bankruptcy, what is the likely consequence of a national debt that averages out to somewhere between $55,000 and $650,00 per person?
Is there any reason to suppose that a national bankruptcy can be avoided?
• Punchline:
The Washington Times (“Judge orders Gov. Snyder to withdraw Detroit’s bankruptcy petition”) reports that a county judge has ordered Governor Rick Snyder to withdraw Detroit’s bankruptcy petition, saying the state is “illegally trampling the rights of pensioners.”
The judge says plaintiffs in the case (pensioners) have been “blindsided” by Detroit’s bankruptcy petition.
“Blindsided”?
“Blindsided”??!!
Nobody’s been “blindsided” except maybe those millions who’ve spent their lives watching Dancing With the Stars and The Voice or drinking beer or doin’ crack. Detroit’s bankruptcy has been clearly seen and anticipated for at least a decade by anyone who bothered to look at the facts.
Similarly, when the United States government finally declare an express bankruptcy and openly defaults on its debts—or at least admits an implicit bankruptcy through hyperinflation—millions of Americans will claim to have been “blindsided”.
But the truth will be that the US bankruptcy has been coming for decades and has been apparent and inevitable to anyone who eyes to see and ears to hear. We may be somewhat surprised by the coming national bankruptcy’s timing, but no one but morons, children and addicts will be able to legitimately claim to have been “blindsided”.
I know what’s coming. You know what’s coming. If we don’t prepare accordingly, we’ll have no one to blame but ourselves.
Chicken Common Sense
When a baby chick is born into this world, it comes equipped with everything it will need to live – just – real tiny. It has a little bitty beak, and little bitty claws, and it knows to stay with the other little bitty chicks. When it grows up, it knows what a grain of corn, or rice or a bug looks like. It learns how to fly short distances – maybe into a low branch to escape harm. It is born with everything it needs to thrive and have little baby chicks of its own.
If you look at all of God’s creatures, you’ll discover that He gives them what they will need to move around – provide for themselves and those they choose to provide for – as part of their standard equipment. And, He builds into them the knowledge necessary to do so. Birds are born – knowing how to fly and make a nest. Groundhogs know how to dig a hole in the ground – to call it home. Squirrels – know how to eat and store nuts. Skunks have a very interesting defense mechanism. All of them are born with the tools – and knowledge to use them – to provide for and defend or protect themselves.
Humans – however – are among God’s most helpless creatures. If you don’t believe that humans are among God’s most helpless, why is it that baby deer can run within hours of birth – but – humans – well – it takes a little longer? OK, so you’re not a baby. If you don’t think you’re innately helpless – divest yourself of everything you own – including your clothes – and go out in the woods – or the plains – or the desert – wherever you live – and see how long you can live by eating berries – in the winter - - - -
I would not try that if you live in a city. It might be quite embarrassing - - - -
I have yet to try, but I doubt that I could dig a hole in the ground with my bare hands to call it home, and the last time I tried to fly was when I was four – maybe five. The top of the bureau in the dining room was high enough for me. That didn’t work. And my mother gave me good reason not to try it again. I have serious doubts that I could outrun a pack of wolves, or climb a tree faster than a mountain lion.
Let’s face it. We people haven’t the tools God gave a chicken to survive – and we’re born with less innate ability to survive – than a chicken. We must have tools and we must learn how to use them to provide for our food. And we among all God’s creatures – must have clothes – but I guess fig leaves might do in a pinch – if you’re in a nice warm climate. And the same pretty much goes for our homes. We need tools. And among our tools, we must have tools to defend ourselves. My teeth aren’t long, and I have no claws – but – I confess – there are times when I don’t smell real good. In truth, the only difference between us and the cavemen – are our tools and our knowledge about how to use them.
So, anybody who tries to take your tools – any of them – or the land out of which you ultimately derive a living – or educates you with something other than what you need to survive – physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually – that’s pretty much the same as cutting a chicken’s beak off – and pulling it’s claws out – and that’s basically what the cabal who think they run this planet wants to do to us – to take us back to before the caveman days. And any chicken knows that just don’t make sense.

I was watching a news snippet on PBSTV and it was about inner-city middle school children in Asbury Park , NJ who participated in a program started by the Houston Initiative called "What's it Like to Earn-a-Bike?" Imagine; you make kids earn something instead of just giving it to them. I'm being facetious because it used to be the American way to teach children to work hard and earn their way. One of the children in the PBSTV special who had completed the program and now was helping to teach other children how to fix their bike said, "I felt accomplished and free; like I could do anything." This child, and others like him, has a better chance of becoming a success in adult life than those who just take and don't give back. ILLUSION OF WORDS- POLITICAL CORRECTNESS
Modern society has little knowledge where the term "liberal" originated. Well, you can go back thousands of years to Isaiah 33:1-8. Here we learn who shall not reside in the kingdom of God and we read; "The vile person shall be no more called liberal nor the churl (greedy) said to be bountiful." Obviously these liberal and greedy (churlish) folks won't call God's kingdom home. Interesting that God describes a liberal person as vile whereas the world offers a different definition such as: generous, tolerant, open-minded and progressive. Liberals are tolerant of the things God calls sin. We read in Isaiah 5:18-26 where the liberal flaunt sin before God thinking they won't be judged. But God says, "Woe unto them that call evil good and good evil; that put darkness for light and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter." President Reagan was correct when he stated liberalism is a form of mental illness. Liberals are for and promote the things which God hates such as: pornography, homosexuality, pedophilia, abortion, bestiality and euthanasia. These things have a price and bring corruption, destruction and disease with them.

WE'RE NOT SUPPOSE TO JUDGE
Political correctness and liberals say we are not to judge ANYONE. These words of illusion the liberals like to parrot as in the Book of Matthew 7:1; "Judge not, that you be not judged." However, liberals stop there and don't finish the next sentence which reads; "For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged." Which means; the ones you judge should be judged by the same standard you would judge yourself. So, it doesn't say you shouldn't judge; just don't hold who you are judging at a higher standard than yourself. According to scripture, we are to judge everything. Otherwise why would God instruct you to seek wisdom and discernment if you don't judge anything? (Proverbs 4:7) When you get good enough at judging righteously, God says you will judge His angles (I Cor 6:3).

LINE IN THE SAND
You'd have to be blind to not notice the progression of global corruption. The US isn't alone in the current non-stop, monumental and organized attack on morality. That which is moral and good is being presented as just the opposite. Are you shocked this is happening? Those who live moral lives and believe in Jesus Christ will suffer persecution by the world and the wicked will wax worse and worse. (2 Timothy 3:12-13). Who established mankind's moral code? The Lord God did. So, what you are witness to is a system against that which God established. This includes the foundations of the world. What are the foundations? Marriage as defined by God, the family and His church. If the foundations be destroyed, what shall the righteous do? (Psalms 11:3). In other words, you are smack in the middle of the Anti-Christ system. There is a major attack on what God created. Science is recreating food, animals and man with genetics. There are more controls placed on the earth's resources than ever before. I have little doubt that you will see a water cartel set up to tightly regulate water.

WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?
I've said it before and I'll say it again; how do you spot the wicked? The wicked want to control you and everything you own; not liberate you or help you to become self sufficient and more independent. America has a government that has become the enemy from within; establishing more control over the people. Yes, wicked people think differently but God says do not to be ignorant of their ways in order to defeat them. Since we essentially no longer have a Congress with judges legislating from the bench and executive orders by Obama we had better wise up. If you haven't already learned the strategy of the enemy, now is the time to learn how they operate. The word of God tells us that what we really war against is evil spiritual influences and He lists them; the principalities (local magistrates), the powers (state & national authorities), the rulers (heads of countries) and spiritual wickedness in high places (Satan himself who empowers the first three). Scripture refers to this world government as the gates of hell (Eph 6:10-20). Edward Snowden is a recent example of what the righteous are up against.
IDENTY THEFT
We hear a lot about identity theft and how we should protect our credit rating and all the numbers associated with our name. A more important identity theft we should be concerned about is the enemies of God taking away our heavenly rewards. The enemy uses three big weapons against us; deception, doubt and disobedience. Allowing ones self to be deceived leads to you doubting and then falling into disobedience. Your weapons to counter the enemy's attack are always; truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith and the word of God (sword of the spirit). God's word has power and nothing can prevail against it. I've seen it defeat attorneys, Attorney Generals and Judges. So, if you want to feel accomplished and free; like you can do anything – spend some time reading God's word. Find out what God expects of you. You'll find he wants you to pray always, help fellow believers (even unto death He says) and fulfill the Great Commission (warn the wicked with God's word). Remember, the Book of Acts tells us that our citizenship is to be in the Kingdom of God . So, the next time you are asked if you are a resident of a state or a citizen of the United States ; tell them the truth.

Because things are getting SO dark, I have been doing radio shows pretty much every day; trying my best to wake people up as to the intentional destruction of everything that matters. There are not enough hours in the day to do research on all of what is ailing America (and the world); thus I am very grateful to listeners and readers of this newsletter for emailing me at drcarley@gmail.com the results of their research so that I can pass this information along. While the mainstream media is distracting you with the acquittal of George Zimmerman (another divide and conquer strategy to pit black and white against each other), there are very serious things going on that the mainstream media is not and never will tell us. And of course now the mainstream media is promoting the Feds bringing civil rights charges against Zimmerman, so who knows how long this distraction will continue. It was amazing to watch AG Holder go on camera to state that the justice department will be investigating this case to see if there were civil rights violations in this "unnecessary death" (funny how he did not investigate himself when unnecessary deaths were caused by his "Fast and Furious" fiasco.)
We have all learned that the NSA is collecting our phone records and e-mails; now we find out (as is also true with the military) that the NSA goes after students in their attempt to recruit grunts to "serve" their country by doing the bidding of the psychopaths who control the world to get a paycheck.
