Protect Yourself From Unethical Dealers

by Alfred Adask

There are three phases to a bull market:
First, the smart money begins to buy a particular stock, bond or commodity when virtually everyone else rejects that investment vehicle as foolish.  Because virtually no one wants to buy the particular investment vehicle, the price is low, low, low.  But some people with great intelligence or intuition look at the investment, see that that vehicle is hugely mis-priced and is about to begin a significant period of price appreciation.  As the “smart” investors move in, the bull market begins and prices start to rise.

The second phase of the bull market is where institutional money recognizes the success enjoyed by the smart money and therefore copies their example.  As more institutions buy the particular investment, the price goes up more quickly.

Finally, the third phase begins when the public begins to buy the particular investment.  The public doesn’t generally understand trends or economic considerations. But they understand prices.  They understand that if a particular investment cost $50 two years ago, and $75 last year, then it’s bound to be $125 this year and probably $200 next year.  They buy investments only because everyone else is buying and they’ve heard predictions that the price must soon reach some astronomical level.

When the public enters into a bull market, prices jump because: 1) the public inject huge resources into the market; and 2) the public are ultimately driven by emotion (greed) rather than smarts.

The public phase resembles a stampede.  It’s both exhilarating and dangerous.  It’s exhilarating because prices defy reality and increase hyperbolically. It’s dangerous because the public’s emotion (greed) can suddenly change to fear and the investment’s price will plunge.

Eventually, the same smart people who helped start the bull market twenty years earlier, will again realize that that investment is significantly mis-priced.  This time, it’s over-priced.  The smart money (who bought when the price was low because no one wanted it) will sell when the price is high (when everyone wants to buy).  Soon after, the price will fall from an irrational high to something reasonable and that bull market will be dead.

•  Gold has been in a bull market for at least a decade.  During that decade, the gold market has been dominated by the smart money.

Only recently has gold moved into the second phase where we see institutional investors.  Last year, the University of Texas announced that it was buying $1 billion in gold.  Governments around the world are grabbing all the gold they can afford.  Last July, the Federal Reserve, FDIC and Europe’s Bank of International Settlements (BIS) simultaneously recommended that gold be elevated from a Class III reserve asset for banks to a Class I reserve asset.  By doing so, they essentially opened the door for the world’s private banks to begin buying and holding gold.

As institutions buy, the “conventional wisdom” that formerly recommended against buying gold is changing into an admission that gold is hot and likely to stay hot in the foreseeable future.

Now, we’re waiting for the third stage when the public enters en masse.  That entrance might not take place for another 12 to 48 months.  We know that the public hasn’t yet entered the gold bull market because only about 1% of the American people hold gold as an investment.  We probably won’t really see the public “stampede” until at least 10% of the people are buying gold.

If this gold bull market follows the pattern of previous bull markets, the big price jumps and big profits in gold should be all ahead of us.

•  But long before we reach the big money or the end of the bull market in gold, we’re going to see another problem: an influx of “vultures” from Wall Street seeking to predate on institutional and public buying of gold.

We’re already beginning to see “vultures” circling the gold markets. Got GLD?   Are you trading “long” (or “short”) on gold futures?  You’re in vulture land.

Who do I mean my “vultures”?  I mean the salesmen and con-artists that have populated Wall Street (and the stock markets, in general) for years and are now starting to sell gold and gold-related “investments”.

Consider:  The New York Times reports in “New York Stock Exchange Settles Case Over Early Data Access” that,
“In the latest federal action against a major exchange, the New York Stock Exchange settled accusations on Friday that its trading data gave select clients a split-second advantage over retail investors. . . . The improper actions, which began in 2008, ran afoul of safeguards set up to promote fairness in a system known for favoring elite investors.

“Improper early access to market data, even measured in milliseconds, can in today’s markets be a real and substantial advantage that disproportionately disadvantages retail and long-term investors,” Robert Khuzami, the agency’s enforcement director, said in a statement. “That is why S.E.C. rules mandate that exchanges give the public fair access to basic market data.”
There’s the wiggle-room.  It’s there in the word “basic”.  The stock exchanges must give everyone equal access to “basic market data” but not to “all” or “sophisticated” market data.   How long do you suppose it will take the stock brokers to devise a way to pass along “sophisticated” (rather than “basic”) “market data” to their “select clients”?  How long will it take for the “select clients” to learn to read the “sophisticated market data” in a way that lets them continue to generate unfair profits at the expense of the public?

If the S.E.C. ever decides to stop the corruption, they’ll mandate that the stock exchanges make all data available to everyone at exactly the same time.   The fact that the S.E.C. has mandated that only “basic” data be accessible to all indicates that the S.E.C. is in on the stock market corruption.  They know it’s taking place.  They don’t intend to stop it.  They only intend to create the impression that the corruption is being stopped.

The corruption on Wall Street is systemic. Even the regulators are in on the “fix”.

Insofar as the corruption is systemic, who can work in the stock market industry who is not corrupt or at least indifferent to corruption?   Can we expect moral and ethical behavior from stock brokers who are either corrupt or at least indifferent to corruption?

Business Insider reports (“Cliff Asness Wants Everyone To Read This Paper On How Investors Are Getting Swindled”) that
“A new paper charges that America is getting swindled by the investment management industry. The paper, titled Murder on the Orient Express and authored by Charles Ellis, claims that "a 'crime' of extensive underperformance has been committed in mutual funds, pension funds, and endowments" – that is, among the institutions where "Main Street" has its money invested.

“One insidious reason for the terrible underperformance by the funds investing your pensions, 401-Ks, and endowments, is, according to Ellis: the fees. . . .  "Seen correctly, active management [of investments] may be the only service ever offered that costs more than the value delivered. . . . true fees—incremental fees as a percentage of incremental added value—are more than 50% of the value delivered by the more successful active managers and are far higher, even infinitely higher, for the many less successful active managers.

“Ellis says across the industry, everyone from investment managers and investment consultants to fund executives and investment committees are complicit in the "crime" of institutional underperformance.”
That’s more evidence that the entire financial industry is beset by corrupt brokers, regulators, salesmen and gurus.  The problem is systemic

•  Business Insider also reports that,
“Nassim Taleb – the man behind the term "black swan" . . . explains how it has basically become impossible to be successful in the industry by putting in the work.

“You just have to get lucky.

“The reason for this is that the track records of successful managers are increasingly characterized by huge wins resulting from "spurious performance," according to Taleb, which has allowed them to "rise to the top for no reasons other than mere luck, with subsequent rationalizations, analyses, explanations, and attributions."
In other words, the financial industry is increasingly led by CEO’s who didn’t achieve power because they were hard-working, intelligent and insightful—but instead because they were lucky.

Taleb’s allegations of luck overcoming hard work and intelligence imply that the markets have become irrational, unpredictable and are therefore unsusceptible to hard work and intellect.

Is that possible?  Sure.

Why?  Market manipulation

In the past, the two fundamental forces of supply and demand determined prices in a way that could be generally understood and predicted.

But today, there’s a third force: government and/or Wall Street manipulation of markets.  That force is unpredictable and can therefore cause the markets to behave “irrationally” by suddenly going up—or down—for no reason that economics can identify.

What are those reasons?  Wall Street financiers and/or government have conspired to rig the markets to either generate fat, unearned profits for themselves, or to deceive the public into thinking the economy is stronger than it really is.

The markets themselves are being manipulated in ways that clearly defy classical economic theory.  That manipulation is evidence of systemic corruption.

•Here’s one from Forbes with the provocative headline, “Which is More Corrupt?  Wall Street or Congress?”:
“It’s an interesting question: which of the two is more corrupt, Wall Street or Congress?  We can certainly see that there is corruption on Wall Street as we can see people being sentenced for being corrupt. We do sometimes see people from Congress being hauled off to jail for corruption, but it’s much rarer.

“That should in fact settle the issue. More finance types get jailed for corruption than political types, therefore finance is more corrupt than politics. . . . Which means that we can finally answer our original question, which is more corrupt, Congress or Wall Street? Why, it’s Wall Street, of course. For Congress has decided that when Congress does it it isn’t corrupt. Which makes everything just fine, doesn’t it?”
OK—maybe it’s a tossup.  Maybe Wall Street isn’t as corrupt as Congress, but it’s a close call.

And, again, we see evidence that the extent of corruption, breach of fiduciary obligations, unethical and even criminal acts within the financial industry is widespread.

•  But are the previous articles really evidence?  Or are they just the hyperbolic opinions of journalists determined to attract an audience?

Consider a recent survey of 500 financial services professionals, conducted by market researcher Populus at the behest of law firm Labaton Sucharow.  It turned up some surprisingly candid results. For example:

1.  39% of financial industry insiders surveyed "reported that their competitors are likely to have engaged in illegal or unethical activity in order to be successful."

2.  "26% of respondents indicated that they had observed or had firsthand knowledge of wrongdoing in the workplace."

3.  Nearly one in four "believed that financial services professionals may need to engage in unethical or illegal conduct in order to be successful.

4.  Nearly one in three said they felt "pressured by bonus or compensation plans to violate the law or engage in unethical conduct.”

5.  16% of respondents admitted that they—personally—would break the law by trading on insider information "if they could get away with it."

That’s evidence that the Wall Street financial “culture” is corrupt from top to bottom.

Wall Street admits its corruption.

Its candor implicitly celebrates that corruption.

Are there some honest men on Wall Street?  Probably.  But if they’re both “honest” and successful, they know of other crooks in the business but are unwilling or too cowardly to report them.  How “honest” is a man who truly won’t commit a murder, but also won’t report the murders he’s seen committed by his neighbors?

However many honest men may work on Wall Street, they’d seem to be a minority.

•  When asked why he robbed banks, Willey Sutton answered, “‘Cuz that’s where the money is.”  Similarly, wherever you find big money, you’ll also lots of crooks looking to make a fast buck.  Big money attracts big crooks.  That principle certainly applies to the fundamental motivation behind a lot individuals working on Wall Street.

They’ve knowingly sold shoddy products, churned the markets to make multiple commissions, and routinely lied to hustle their clients into spending more money.

These “investment advisors” have routinely advised against the single best investment over the past decade (physical gold and silver).  Why?  Because once someone buys physical gold, he holds it.  Stock brokers dislike gold because once someone buys gold, they won’t quickly sell it to buy something else and then, sell again, to buy a third investment.

See, stockbrokers are paid by commission.  The more sales they make, the more commissions they make.  Therefore, if a customer bought gold and essentially dropped out of the market, there’d be no more commissions to be made of that customer.  On the other hand, if a customer could be persuaded to buy GM stock today, sell it tomorrow, move his money into IBM, sell that on the following day to speculate in Microsoft, the broker could make multiple commissions off the same customer.

The investment advisors’ and stock brokers’ refusal to recommend buying gold for the past decade is evidence of the obvious:  Wall Street and the people it employs are not interested in seeing their customers prosper—they are primarily interested in their own prosperity.  The principle means of generating profits for Wall Street and its brokers is by extracting money from their customers.  Thus, there’s no serious inhibition to screwing customers if brokers can profit.

And some of those hustlers are starting to emigrate from Wall Street’s stocks and bonds to the sale of gold.

When the third stage (public participation) of the gold bull market arrives, the hustlers from Wall Street will arrive in droves.  Because the public is gullible, greedy, and ignorant, they’ll be easily exploited by the Wall Street hustlers.

•  How can gold buyers protect themselves from the influx of unethical Wall Street types?

1.  Recognize that paper is a lie.  Any paper debt instrument is not an asset but merely a promise to pay.  Yes, there’s a lot of leverage in paper and big opportunity for huge profits.  But that same leverage creates an equal or greater risk of enormous losses.  We live in a world that’s so overrun by “promises to pay” (debts) that 80% to 90% of those promises must ultimately be repudiated.  The vast majority of those who hold their wealth in the form of paper promises will lose their assets.

2.  Recognize that physical gold in your possession is not a promise to pay, but a payment.  Those who hold their gold won’t lose their assets.  Having real assets in a world about to go broke could save your life and might even provide unprecedented opportunities to acquire land and businesses at fire-sale (depression level) prices.

3.  Recognize that any gold coin dealer that employs ten or more salesmen will be susceptible to the same competitive forces that helped make Wall Street systemically corrupt.  The big dealers have big overhead that must be paid.   I guarantee those salesmen will be fighting to win commissions by hook or by crook.   If you do business with the biggest dealers, they’ll be working entirely for their own interests and not at all for yours.

4.  Remember that the first phase of the bull market is dominated entirely by the “smart money”.  Those investors aren’t merely “smart” enough to see early on that gold was a great investment, they were also smart enough to discover the gold dealers who were ethical and fair.  Any gold dealer who’s been in business for at least the past ten years (the “smart money” phase of the bull market), has been tested by the “smart money” and found to be generally honest, competent and fair.

If you’re looking for a physical gold dealer, stay away from the Wall Street types.  Look for a dealer who has a small staff and has been in business under the same owner for at least a decade.

Should I get the Flu Shot?
by Dr. Stefanie Gross-Rodstater

Experts question the evidence that the flu shot is effective

There is continued evidence that we should question the benefit of a flu shot. More and more, the drug companies that manufacture the flu shot are pushing the use of flu shots. They want every man, woman and child to receive their product. At Eastern Illinois University , every student pays for a flu shot in their tuition; then the University looks like the "good guy" by offering "Free Flu Shots" for the students. Recently, I am hearing of doctors who recommend flu shots for infants. These babies are already receiving numerous vaccines in their first year of life and there is mounting concern over the cumulative effect of multiple vaccines. Adding another vaccine just increases the risk of potential serious complications.

In the March/April 2002 issue of Midwest Nurse Week, a journal for the nursing profession, an article on an influenza (flu) outbreak was published. They reported that an outbreak of influenza was hitting urban areas of Nebraska . This was not surprising since it was during the flu season. The disturbing news is that nearly all of the residents received the flu shot prior to the outbreak. One resident even died as a result of complications. Are flu shots ineffective?

We may ask ourselves, how effective is this flu shot? Experts have already asked themselves this question. Dr. J. Anthony Morris, former chief Vaccine Control Officer of the US Food and Drug Administration stated, "There is no evidence that any influenza vaccine (flu shot) thus far developed is effective in preventing or mitigating any attack of influenza. The producers of the vaccine know that they are worthless, but they go on selling them anyway."

Chiropractic is the best "shot." Wellness chiropractic care has been demonstrated to boost the immune system, making chiropractic the healthy choice if you wish to protect yourself this flu season. Have your nervous system checked to determine if chiropractic might help you.

What's Ailing America? SIDE EFFECTS OF BODY ART
by Rebecca Carley, MD
www.reversingvaccineinduceddiseases.com

As I always say, when asking the question "What's Ailing America (and the world)?, I will never run out of answers to that question.  It is my goal to educate and empower others to learn what I have learned so that you can achieve and maintain the highest frequency of health possible in a world where psychopaths without conscience are destroying everything.  Of course, eventually those of conscience will have to put these predators out of business.  To accomplish that goal, those who deeply care about our planet will need to have their health and wits at a very high level.

In our medical schools corrupted by the Rockefellors and big pharma, creation and then management of disease is the focus.  Anything that actually heals the patient is suppressed; one of my clients in whom I taught how to reverse her breast cancer actually related an experience she had at Sloan Kettering Cancer Institute where an oncologist she was consulting (before she found me) actually told her that eating an organic, alkalinizing diet was WITCHCRAFT (as he proceeded to suggest cellular toxins in the form of chemotherapy as her only treatment option).  I also had a nurse whose sister was diagnosed with ovarian cancer tell me that "the immune system has nothing to do with cancer" during a conversation we had after her dying sister asked her to consider what I do with my protocol.  After many such experiences, I have given up on waking up the licensed robots who do the bidding of big pharma.  People need to educate themselves as to the causes of disease, detox poisons they have been exposed to, and learn what to do and not do if they want to survive.  My clients know more than any medical minion about health, and eventually the puppets of big pharma will become extinct when their only patients are other medical minions. Eventually people will realize that their bodies have the innate ability to heal themselves, as long as they know what to do and not do.  Medical doctors will be viewed as a plague on humanity and pets; their demise will be celebrated.

When I left medicine in the early 1990's and started studying natural healing, one of the most amazing things I learned had been hidden from me in my medical school "education" was the energy system of the body.  The chakras are the energy centers of the body which function like receivers and transformers of various forms of prana (life force).  Connected to the chakras are 14 subtle energy pathways called meridians.  Along these meridians are 500 acupuncture points ( http://www.sahej.com/meridians.html ).  "These meridians contain a free-flowing, colorless, non-cellular liquid which may be partly actuated by the heart".  The blockage of these meridians is an aspect to dis-ease which traditionally trained MD's have not a clue about.  In fact, any incision (even small ones used for laparoscopic surgery) will cause meridians in that area to be permanently blocked with scar tissue.  Thus, in addition to all the dangerous drugs, procedures and diagnostic tests that the white coats inflict on their patients, you can add the blockage of these very important energy channels to the damage being done.  Acupuncture, homeopathy  and even acupressure can help to restore flow to these channels (unless they are totally blocked off with scar tissue). This introductory material leads us to today's subject; body art.

Once I learned about these energy meridians, I realized how body piercings also interfere with the flow of energy along these pathways.  Depending on the location, these piercings and the scar tissue they create can cause permanent disruption of energy flow in that area.  I foolishly had my ears pierced when I was 14 years old.  I have learned how to test polarity, and when jewelry is inserted into the piercings, even more problems are caused in the energy anatomy. The ever increasing number of young people getting body piercings in many areas of their bodies have no clue of the permanent damage they are doing to the energy meridians in their bodies (since such things are not taught in health class either).

I have wondered for many years about the health ramifications of body tattoos. As reported at http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/tattoos-and-piercings/MC00020 , tatoos are permanent marks made on the skin with a hand held machine that acts like a sewing machine, with one or more needles piercing the skin repeatedly.  With every puncture, the needles insert tiny ink droplets.  Risks mentioned in this article include:  allergic reactions, which can occur even years after you get the tattoo; skin infections; skin problems such as keloids (due to an overgrowth of scar tissue); and bloodborne diseases such as hepatitis B & C (if the equipment is contaminated with infected blood). A possible negative consequence I had no clue about is that tattoo pigments can cause burning or swelling of affected areas during magnetic resonance (MRI) scans, and can also interfere with the quality of the scan.

As I mentioned, I had been wondering about the side effects of tattoos for many years; however, with so many things ailing America for me to cover, I had not gotten around to investigating this phenomena.  I have seen a dramatic increase in the number of people with tattoos, many times covering a large majority of people's bodies, even their faces.  When I lived in Long Island, there was a girl that came to meetings of a group I was involved with who had the nickname "bar code", as she actually had a bar code tattooed on the back of her neck.  An indication of things to come, perhaps?

I decided it was time to cover this topic when I received the following link to an article entitled "Is your tattoo making you sick?"  http://healthfreedoms.org/2012/08/23/is-your-tatoo-making-you-sick .    Tattoo ink distributors are not required to list ingredients on the bottles, and some tattoo artists mix ink themselves. Interestingly, it states that "the US FDA has launched an investigation after new research turned up troubling findings about toxic chemicals in tattoo ink".  WHAT A RELIEF!  The same corrupt agency that allows all of us and our pets to be injected with toxic poisons nicknamed vaccines is going to now step in to "protect us"!  This article reported that inks can contain thimerosol, phthalates, metals (which is why MRI's are affected), and hydrocarbons that are carcinogens and endocrine disruptors. As mentioned, if the needle is contaminated  with organisms, those organisms will be injected into the skin as well.  In fact, I now think of tattoos as a vaccine that leaves a permanent mark on the skin. Since vaccines and tattoos contain many of the same toxins, a cumulative effect of the damage is unavoidable. The article states that an estimated 45 million people in the U.S have at least one tattoo.  Not a single one has been given informed consent as to what they are being injected with.  The article noted above talks about black tattoo inks made from soot containing products of combustion called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons that cause skin cancer in animal tests.  Colored inks often contain lead, cadmium, chromium, nickel, titanium and other heavy metals.

The fact that the FDA is allegedly going to start investigating these inks is a joke, of course.  As you will read in any package insert for any vaccine, none have ever been tested to see if they cause cancer.  And what companies are making these tattoo inks?  I was horrified to discover that many of them are in China (http://www.made-in-china.com/manufacturers-exporters/c5q0nolimit/Tattoo_Ink-1.html ).  The FDA has done nothing to protect people and pets from toxic products manufactured in China; and there is no reason to believe they will start with tattoo ink.  Spread the word.

SEPTEMBER IS FOR FEMALES
By Herbalist Wendy Wilson

Someone with links to the pharmaceutical cartel has made September Menopause Awareness Month. In the last decade, more women have shied away from the prescription drugs, such as Premarin, for menopausal symptoms because of the cancer side effects. Folks are waking up that a drug that trades the temporary relief of vaginal dryness and hot flashes for uterine or breast cancer is not worth it. What causes menopause? It is caused by changes in ovary production of estrogen and progesterone. When ovaries become decommissioned by the body they produce less of these hormones and the body has to adjust. Let's see how we can make this transition as smooth as possible and side step the sleepless nights, irritability and the prescription drugs.

THE MENOPAUSE BEAST
Menopause is a natural event, which occurs when a women is between 45 and 55. Once a woman completes the menopause cycle (one full year without menstrual bleeding) she is considered post-menopausal. Some women don't have severe menopausal symptoms while others do. It is estimated that 30% of women will have no or few menopause symptoms leaving 70% with moderate to severe menopausal symptoms. Some women can experience mild to moderate hot flashes, night sweats and vaginal dryness and these symptoms are manageable. Some women have difficulty with these symptoms in greater severity including weight gain and insomnia. Here is the list of menopausal symptoms which can manifest in different degrees of severity.
Hot flashes and skin flushing
Night sweats
Insomnia
Fatigue
Brain fogginess, concentration issues
Mood swings, irritability, depression and anxiety
Irregular periods, spotting in between periods
Decreased sex drive
Painful intercourse
Vaginal infections
Urinary tract infections
Bone loss or osteoporosis
Cholesterol level changes
Weight gain

In younger women, some menopause symptoms can actually be the result of a malfunctioning thyroid. Your medical physician can confirm the cause with blood work.

NEW GENERATION OF HORMONAL DRUGS
In 2004 the FDA approved, Enjuvia a new drug for moderate to severe menopause symptoms. Here are the side effects; bloating, diarrhea, dizziness, gas, headache, sexual malfunction, nausea, stomach pain, weight changes, rash, hives, itching, breathing problems, swelling of mouth-face-lips-tongue, vaginal bleeding, breast lumps, breast/chest pain, vision problems, speech problems, fainting, depression, mood changes, shortness of breath, swelling of hands & feet, vaginal infection, vomiting, weakness & numbness of extremities and yellowing of skin and eyes. Sounds like a very toxic poison to me. To reassure female patients, this drug has been promoted as a plant-derived estrogen product. Is it any safer? No, because the drug companies have not changed the way they formulate their drugs. They isolate the plant chemical they want, make a synthetic version of it, add fillers and viola they have a new patented drug. The problem with this process is that they isolate plant chemicals, which are designed to go together with their assigned uptake chemicals in order for the body to use it correctly. Without the partner chemicals, there will be side effects. Anyway you slice or dice it you are using hormone replacement instead of nutrition for the body to manufacturer its own hormones. This is estrogen therapy and it still presents the risk of endometrial cancer. So if you elect to use these kinds of drugs, doctors will try to calm patient fears by prescribing it in lower doses combined with progestin hormones. The PDR (Physician's Desk Reference) still cautions doctors to use artificial hormone therapy short-term, which means the patient should not use the drug for more than one year. There are over 50 replacement hormone therapy drugs and many of them are combined with antidepressants, such as Paxil, Effexor, Wellbutrin and Prozac. Some will be combined with high blood pressure drugs. Do your homework on any drug your doctor recommends.

LITTLE BLACK BAG
The doctor's black bag used to be an icon of the medical profession. Stephen Morris of Nottingham wrote a piece titled "The Story of a Little Black Bag," which you can find on website of The Journal of the Royal College of General Practitioners. Morris states that the medical practitioners in the 1890's would carry their gear in varied containers – hat boxes, music cases, fine carrier bags and of course the "little black bag " Folks were as fascinated with the little black bag as if it belonged to Marry Poppins. Back then the young and old treated the little black bag with intrigue. Midwives also carried them and they came in all shapes and sizes. Depending on the doctor's specialty, a careful look through the 1885 catalog produced by Messrs Down Bros or Meyer & Phelps Limited of London , the doctor then could select the bag with instruments that he needed. The country doctors typically carried much larger bags than the city doctors. In some cases the country doctors needed a medium-sized suitcase which they purchased at the local Woolworth's. The little black bag was a symbol of family medicine and was regularly used into the 1950's. Today, physician bags have changed to include drugs, a few syringes and rubber gloves.

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Ben Franklin

PREVENTION
Women who smoke are at a higher risk of cardiovascular disease and when combined with prescription drugs can offer greater risks of stroke. Also, smoking can produce an early onset of menopause. Regular exercise will go a long way in helping the body adjust to hormone changes and also help keep bones strong. A healthy diet, moderate alcohol consumption and vitamin supplements will also help make menopause a smooth transition. Drinking too much alcohol will disrupt hormones in the body magnifying the symptoms of menopause.

REAL NATURAL MEDICINE
The pharmaceutical companies are promoting their menopause drugs and supplements from a "natural plant" angle. But when you look into their manufacturing processes you will find that they are not producing a natural product. Producing a natural product takes time and careful attention not to take away from what the plant contains. If you want natural medicine with over 60-years of testing then look to companies that manufacture Dr. John Christopher's formulations. Apothecary Herbs is such a company. Here is a recommended list of their products to help women with a smooth transition through menopause.

Female Maturity Formula - (liquid tincture)
Calcium Formula - (plant-based calcium, liquid tincture)
Heart, Cholesterol, BP formula - (liquid tincture)
Kidney/Bladder Cleanse Kit - (for infections & incontinence)
Smokers' Helper - (liquid tincture to quit smoking)
Black Walnut - (liquid tincture – thyroid food)
Body Foundation Food Mix - (vitamin, mineral & protein support – powdered mix)
Valerian Root – liquid tincture – anxiety, depression)
Relaxation Formula – (liquid tincture – better sleep)

If you are going to be aware of menopause, be also aware of what plant nutrition can feed the body to help the body manufacturer the right amount of hormones for you. Hormone replacement is not the key to reversing menopause symptoms. Nutrition is. Iodine – the Missing Link?
By Ty Bollinger

Iodine is responsible for the production every hormone in your body. It is antibacterial, anti-parasitic, antiviral, and a potent cancer fighter. It is also essential in the brain development of children and in stabilizing the metabolism (and body weight). Most Americans are iodine deficient.  Why are we all iodine deficient? For many years iodine was added to bread in generous quantities which prevented iodine deficiency. Each slice of bread contained 150 micrograms of iodine, which was the recommended daily allowance. Fifty year ago, the average American consumed about one milligram of iodine daily with bakery products accounting for about 75% of the total.

However, in the 1970's, the food industry decided to remove iodine from baked goods and replace the iodine with bromine. According to Dr. Jim Howenstine www.newswithviews.com/Howenstine/james37.htm, " Iodine and bromine appear similar to the thyroid gland and bromine easily binds to the thyroid gland's receptors for iodine. Bromine, however, is of no value to the thyroid gland unlike iodine, and it inhibits the activity of iodine in the thyroid gland. Bromine also can cause impaired thinking and memory, drowsiness, dizziness and irritability. This substitution of bromine for iodine has resulted in nearly universal deficiency of iodine in the American populace."

According to Dr. David Brownstein www.newsmax.com/newsletters/brownstein/bromine.cfm, " Bromine is a member of the halide family of elements, which includes fluorine, chlorine, and iodine, and the reduced forms, bromide, chloride, fluoride, and iodide. Iodine is necessary for the production of thyroid hormone. And chloride, a common ingredient of salt, is necessary to keep the fluid inside and outside of your cells in balance. But the other two halides, fluoride and bromine, are both carcinogens and have no therapeutic value (the idea that fluoride prevents tooth decay is more marketing hype than science). I recommend avoiding both. But here's why bromine is especially a problem today. In recent years bromine toxicity has become a near epidemic because it's so widely used in food and popular home products. And here's what it does in your body: Bromide is rapidly absorbed in the intestinal tract, and because its size and weight is very close to iodine, the two compete for binding in the body, especially in the thyroid gland. This is an extremely important concept to understand. If you build up too much bromine in your system, it'll crowd out the iodine, binding to your iodine receptors and causing your body to release iodine. The result is an iodine deficiency and a condition called 'brominated thyroid.' Fatigue, headache, weight gain, depression, feeling cold, and a host of other problems can follow. And your doctor won't know a bromine-induced dysfunctional thyroid is the cause, because standard thyroid tests will not distinguish between the good iodinated thyroid and the bad brominated thyroid. In other words, your thyroid will look normal . . . when it isn't!"

Some of the amazing benefits of iodine include the following:

v  Assists the thyroid gland in producing hormones (thyroxin and triodothyronine) which control the basic metabolic rate
• Promotes healthy hair, teeth, and nails
• Optimizes energy levels
• Helps protect the reproductive organs
• Prevents cancer via promoting apoptosis (programmed cell death) in cancer cells
• Removes toxic chemicals and metals (lead, arsenic, aluminum, mercury, and fluoride)

Interestingly, fluoridated drinking water actually depletes iodine absorption. Iodine deficiency leads to cancers of the breast, prostate, ovaries, uterus, and thyroid. Iodine deficiency can also lead to mental retardation and infertility. So, how can we correct an iodine deficiency? To correct an iodine deficiency by taking iodized salt is not feasible, since you would need 20 teaspoons of iodized salt daily to get adequate quantities of iodine.

Dr. Jay Abrahams developed an iodine preparation (named "Iodoral®") to treat iodine deficiency. My wife and I take this supplement almost daily. Dr. Abrahams believes that the correct quantity of iodine needed to maintain sufficient amounts of iodine in the body is 13 milligrams daily (1 tablet of Iodoral®).  Amazingly, this is 100 times more than the USRDA for iodine.

Fish contains iodine, but you may want to limit your intake due to high levels of mercury. However, sardines have such a short life span they do not get contaminated with mercury. Also, seaweed, dulse, and kelp contain large amounts of iodine. Interestingly, garlic and spinach are also high in iodine. And remember that selenium, vitamin C, and magnesium enhance the effectiveness of iodine. In the end, you may still need an iodine supplement like Iodoral®. If so, then check out www.iodoral.org.
